Year 5 Retreat

Year 5 retreat

On Thursday the 31st all of the year 5's went to St. Francis Retreat center.

All the year 5's had a blast. Personally my favorite activity was the treasure hunt. You each had a name and I think our one was the best, Jesus the Good Shepherd.

You got put in a group ( the picture below is me with my group ) and had to find clues around the campus. The hardest thing was though is that we had to hold this paper it was about 1 m long and we had to have 1 hand on it the whole time. It was so fun and i wish I could go again

Speeches

On Wednesday the 4th of September Good Shepherd School had the speech finals. Three people from each year group performed a speech. These people had won their class, their semifinal and now they were waiting to see what place they would come in the speech finals. I was one of the year 5's along with Jiwoo and Coco. I won the year 5's,  Jiwoo came 2nd  and Coco came 3rd. The overall winner was Mia Growden. I had an awesome time and I can't wait for next year to see if I get in again.

Assembly 2019

Last week room 6 performed their assembly. Our main entertainment was a drama circle on occupations. We also displayed our mixed media we made in term 2. Some people also shared about what they put on their art and why. We all had so much fun preparing and presenting our assembly.

Here are some pictures of our assembly:

Mary Mackillop Feast Day

Another celebration for Good Shepherd School in Week 3 was the Feast Day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. St Mary MacKillop a vital part of Good Shepherd School, this is because she was the founder of the Josephites aka the Brown Joes. The Brown Joes travelled all over Australia and New Zealand helping the poor and those in need. They built schools and that is how we are all students at Good Shepherd School. We celebrated the Feast day by going to a Mass for St Mary of the Cross and also having fun with our buddy class Room 4 as we worked on a St Mary MacKillop Art project.

Multi Cultral Cook Island

Week 3 has been a very busy week with so many celebrations. Good Shepherd School celebrates our multicultural school with our Cook Island Language focus. We looked at the culture through our reading and made fun fact files. We were also lucky to have Alessandra and the cultural leaders teach us a Pure (prayer) to sing.

We learnt Aro’a mai te Atua iaku. See if you can say/sing this pure too.

Aro’a mai te Atua iaku.

Aro’a mai te Atua iaku

I te au mea taku kite nei

Te anuanua kua iti mai ki roto iaku

Aro’a mai te Atua iaku

Keeping Ourselves Safe.

In the last couple of weeks Miss Down gave us each an egg to look after we were all very egg-cited. We took our eggs home and made places for it to sleep. We had to take it to school unless someone looked after it. We made lots of Egg-excellent yokes about them. I got really eggravated doing this but i manged to keep it alive until Friday. It was an egg excellent adventure. Like my vocabulary about eggs it's egg-excellent.

We did lots of cool book week activities in class like making dust jacket covers, wanted posters, bookmarks and story cubes. Finally our favourite day arrived, Friday. We got to dress up as our favourite characters and partake in the literacy treasure hunt.  Overall book week is a fantastic week every year. Room 6 LOVES BOOK WEEK!

Saint Joseph's Day Tabloid Sports

Tuesday 19th March was St Joseph’s Day Feast Day. The whole school attended mass to celebrate the leadership Saint Joseph showed. Saint Joseph is also special to our school because Saint MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph were inspired by Saint Joseph. Saint Joseph is also the foster father of Jesus. The following day, the whole school came together to celebrate with fun tabloid sports in our houses.
